ExCeL London Makes Further Venue Investment

Friday Sep 15, 2006

ExCeL London – September 2006 - ExCeL London is currently undergoing a major refurbishment of the event halls. Since August, ExCeL London has been cleaning, polishing and repainting the event floors with a premium paint system. After consulting the industry, ExCeL London has painted the floors in a dark grey, more enduring paint, which offers organisers the flexibility of a high class flooring that does not require carpet. At the same time, the walls have also been painted to enhance the look, feel and quality of the halls and give them a brand new feel again.

Commenting on the refurbishment, Kevin Murphy, Deputy CEO & MD Exhibitions, ExCeL London: “This represents another considerable capex investment in the venue. In the last few years we have seen our business grow exponentially domestically and internationally, so we need to constantly maintain the high standards and brand delivery we promise, in order to continue to compete on a global scale. We have invested almost £30m in the last year as part of our ongoing commitment to provide a world-class venue and service to all our clients and visitors. The feedback from organisers so far, has been overwhelmingly positive.”

James Mark, Head of Event Management explains: “In order for ExCeL London to continue to offer its high quality facilities, we needed to invest in a higher quality finish on the floors that would benefit both carpeted and non-carpeted events. The most frequent damage to the floors is caused by unsuitable carpet tape, which is difficult to remove, or leaves a glue residue. Once the floors are finished, all contractors and suppliers will be required to use Stikatak Eurocel, code B7 – 38 x 50. Many of our contractors already use this, but from now on it will be mandatory for all contractors to use this to ensure that they do not incur any unnecessary dilapidations charges. The tape is readily available from the manufacturer Stikatak but it will also be available from the ExCeL London Business Services desk located in the boulevard.”
