ExCeL London celebrates worldly accolade

  • November 2010

ExCeL London is officially the World's Best Meetings & Conference Centre having won the coveted title at Sunday's (7th November) World Travel Awards' Grand Final Gala ceremony held in London.

The award follows on from a string of award wins in recent months and was collected by Humaid Al Dhaheri from ADNEC and David Pegler from ExCeL London.

Commenting on the win, Kevin Murphy, CEO, ExCeL London: "I have always believed ExCeL to be a world class venue and this fantastic award is testament to the hard work of our teams here and the continued investment in our facilities and infrastructure by our owners ADNEC. The £165m ICC London which we opened in May this year, has delivered a first class international convention centre for London and enabled the City to truly compete for the major international events."

In order to qualify for the title ExCeL London needed to undergo a rigorous assessment process that graded every aspect of the venue's product offering from facilities to service. With thousands of industry professionals and consumers worldwide casting their votes, the win underlines ExCeL London's status as a global player on the world's business tourism arena, particularly as competition included venues such as Suntec Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre and the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre.

James Rees, Director of Conferences and Events, ExCeL London commented; "Our winning streak is a tremendous achievement for all of the team, especially as it has only been open for 5 months. Moreover, we created ICC London ExCeL in consultation with our buyers and the industry as a whole, and this award proves that we have delivered a product that meets their needs."

In addition, ExCeL London has also been shortlisted for a further three awards including the Sustainable Tourism Award, Business Venue of the Year and Business Event of the Year in this year's Visit London Awards which will be announced on the 8th December 2010.
