First London Cake International brings bakers to ExCeL

The first London edition of ICHF Events' Cake International show has claimed 14,000 visitors at ExCeL London

The cake decorating and baking show which ran from 27 to 29 April fielded 80 exhibitors and was opened by the winner of The Great British Bake Off TV programme, Jo Wheatley. Features included Q&A sessions with Wheatley and guest chefs, a cake decorating competition for amateurs and professionals, workshops, demonstration theatres, an authors' area, bakery theatre and chocolate making zone.

Nick Coffey has joined ExCeL London from Clarion Events where he was Show Manager on their retail portfolio. Prior to joining Clarion Nick worked at UBM for 9 years where he was responsible for the Interiors portfolio.


Londoners Jump for World's Longest Photo Record

Clare Newton, a Hackney artist, hopes to break a new record for the world’s longest photograph as part of the London & Partners’ World Record London. The record be will be adjudicated by Guinness World Records when it is exhibited at ExCeL London, 1 - 9 June.

The photograph measures one kilometre by two metres and consists of over 109,000 images of people across London jumping against London backdrops that have been seamlessly stitched together.


ICC London ExCeL welcomes largest medical congress to London for 2012

On Saturday 31st March, ExCeL London opens its doors to the European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases. This is the first time that ESCMID (European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases) has chosen London for its annual congress and delegate registrations indicate it will be the largest attendance in the event's history.

Organised by Congrex Switzerland, approximately 10,000 attendees are expected, making it the biggest medical congress to be hosted in London in 2012, with an estimated economic benefit to the city of £20million.


Oceanology International 2012 - a record breaker

Oceanology International 2012, held earlier this month at London's ExCeL, proved the most successful ever in over 40 years, in terms of attendance and the number of exhibiting companies. With 7,728 attendees from more than 70 countries (a 10.8% increase on 2010) and over 525 exhibitors from 33 countries, the biennial show broke all previous records. This year Interspill London 2012, with 110 exhibitors, was held alongside Oceanology International, attracting a total attendance figure of 1,346, meaning that the two conjoined shows attracted a grand total of 9,074.


Numbers up at Hotelympia as innovation theme brings visitors out in force

Hotelympia 2012 welcomed over 33,000 attendees to London's ExCeL last week. The visitor attendance is independently verified by the ABC and pending audit is up by 4% on the previous event.

Informa claims more than half of IPEX 2014 floor space booked

Informa has confirmed more than 100 exhibitors have booked space for its next IPEX show, two years before its opening in east London.

IPEX 2014 will take place from 26 March to 2 April 2014. The quadrennial exhibition is relocating from The NEC to Excel London after more than 30 years in Birmingham.


First electric charge points installed at Olympic Venue to support 2012 Games fleet and leave green legacy

Work began today on a network of electric vehicle charge points to support the Olympic and Paralympics' electric vehicle fleet, leaving a legacy for London drivers after the Games.

The Mayor and Transport for London (TfL) are working in association with LOCOG and fellow London 2012 sustainability partners, EDF, GE and BMW, to install 120 charge points which will support a fleet of zero-emission electric vehicles set to be used during the London 2012 Games. After the sporting spectacular, the charge points will join the Source London network, already the capital's largest charging network which will number 1300 by 2013.

Encouraging start as London caravan show pulls in the crowds

With the dust still settling after this year's Motorhome, Caravan & Camping Show came to an end on Sunday, the event's organisers have revealed that it proved even more popular than they had hoped.

Bringing to an end the drought of shows in the south, it became the first event of its kind in the capital for six years and the anticipation showed.


EAG International Expo Comes Of Age

Detailed analysis of visitor statistics has confirmed a third successful year for EAG International Expo in spite of the difficult economic circumstances faced by the amusements and coin-op sectors.

Attendee numbers for the first day were the highest on record and total footfall for the three days totalled 7006, an increase on 2011's total of 6691. The number of individual visitors was 5,333, indicating that an increasing number of visitors chose to make return visits on different days.


ExceL London & PCMA Sign Premier Partnership Agreement

ExCeL London and the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) agreed a two-year strategic partnership last week at the annual Convening Leaders conference in San Diego.

The agreement was finalised at the conference, attended for the first time by James Rees, Director Conferences & Events, and David Pegler, Managing Director, ExCeL London. The partnership will see the development of a series of joint initiatives targeted towards the North American corporate and association meeting planning community.


ADNEC reports record results in 2011

In 2011, ADNEC (Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company) hosted a record number of events at its three event facilities, Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, ExCeL London, and the Al Ain Convention Centre. Together the three venues welcomed 733 events - an increase of 18 per cent over 2010.

Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre saw a 56 per cent year-on-year increase as its total number of events shot up to 231 from 148 in 2010. Events hosted at ExCeL increased from 242 in 2010 to 284 in 2011, an increase of 17 per cent.

ADNEC-owned Aloft London Excel launches in the UK capital

ADNEC and Starwood celebrated the official opening of the first-ever Aloft hotel in the UK with a launch party held last Tuesday at the brand new Aloft London Excel.

First super show at ExCeL cruises to success

The beginning of January saw ExCeL London create and host its largest constellation of consumer shows - a new launch, relocation and growth of an existing event. The first Super Show - the Tullet Prebon London International Boat Show, The Outdoor Show and the Bike Show together - was seen as a huge success by organisers and visitors. The Tullett Prebon London International Boat Show returned to the venue 8% bigger than in 2010, with visitor numbers up by 7% taking the total number of visitors who attended the event up to 109,778 over 10 days.

WTM 2010 Experiences 10% Increase in Visitors

World Travel Market 2010, the premier global event for the travel industry, experienced an impressive 10% increase in visitors.

Almost 27,000 (26,908) visitors attended WTM 2010 over the four days (Monday November 8 - Thursday November 11) compared to 24,402 visitors who attended WTM 2009, reveals unaudited figures of the event.

ExCeL London and Fish Software have concluded an agreement to permanently install Fish's RTMS technology (Real Time Measurement System) in ExCeL. This is the first permanent installation of this technology anywhere , making ExCeL London the world's first truly smart event space. The Fish technology leverages RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) to measure the exact location of every visitor to an event, with an accuracy of 6 inches, every second - providing highly detailed measurement, analysis and benchmarking tools for organisers and exhibitors and an interactive and personalised event experience for visitors.
