The Outdoor Show & London Bike Show

The Outdoor Show had been located at the NEC, Birmingham for nine years. VOS Media, the organisers of The Outdoors Show, were keen to grow the event and were looking for ways to increase both visitor and exhibitor numbers. The ExCeL London senior management team approached VOS about relocating The Outdoors Show to ExCeL London to co-locate it with the London International Boat Show in order for both shows to benefit from the visitor cross over in interest.

Following extensive market research VOS media found a clear gap in the Offer and lauched The London Bike Show to co-locate alongside The Outdoors Show and the London International Boat Show.

The VOS Media team and the London International Boat Show team worked together to agree a single visitor ticket price that would enable visitors to attend all three events with one ticket. Together they created what would be known as ExCeL London's first ever 'Super Show', forming the largest event that had ever been hosted at ExCeL London.

ExCeL London's unique layout and flexible space made it easy for visitors to move around all three events with a single ticket. The ten metre ceiling height of the event halls also meant The Outdoors Show was able to build challenging climbing walls for professional competitions and visitors to try at the event , as well as creating two cycling demonstration features plus mountain bike and road bike test tracks for the London Bike Show.

The Future

Brands and retailers have seen the success of the first year at ExCeL London in terms of commercial return for exhibitors, quality of visitor experience and number of show attendees. As a result, many exhibitors have re-booked, some taking up to 4 times their original space, and there is a very strong list of confirmed or potential new exhibitors for 2012 - including many of the best known brands on the market.

Customer feedback was overwhelmingly positive with 84% of visitors rating the shows as good or excellent.

ExCeL London is a 2012 Olympic venue and The London Bike Show 2012 will form the start of an historical year for UK cycling, including a mass participation cycling event.
