Tesco were looking for a venue to host their biennial Senior Managers' Conference, bringing together 2,500 delegates from across the UK and the retailer's 13 overseas markets.
The 1-day event comprised plenary sessions throughout the day and an evening networking party, with entertainment provided by former Spandau Ballet lead singer Tony Hadley and Girls Aloud member Nadine Coyle.
With delegates from all over the world, a venue with excellent transport links was crucial. Additionally, to accommodate delegates travelling from outside London and international representatives, a venue with access to plenty of hotel rooms was an important criteria.
- Event Solution
Under the theme 'Business for the New Decade', Tesco took over ExCeL London’s ICC Auditorium for plenary sessions throughout the day. As the Auditorium is fully-flexible it could be easily adapted to cater for Tesco's 2,500 delegates.
The venue's ICC Capital Hall was used during the day to showcase new products and for networking between conference sessions. In the evening, the space was transformed to hold an evening party, including live entertainment.
With 3 onsite DLR stations, linking to the London Underground, and 3,700 onsite parking spaces, ExCeL London provided easy access for all attendees.
ExCeL London has 5 onsite hotels, ranging from luxury to budget, all within just a few minutes walk of the main entrance. In addition, there are over 8,000 hotel rooms within 20 minutes of the venue, which helped to accommodate delegates during their visit.

"Having worked at ExCeL London in previous years, this time we were attracted to the flexibility of the new ICC Auditorium. We were able to accommodate an extremely wide screen, and liked the high specification, sound-proof auditorium. The close proximity of the Capital Hall and being able to use the boulevard area for registration meant that we didn't 'lose' delegates during refreshment breaks."
