- Event - Women Deliver: A Global Initiative
- Delegate numbers - 1,800
- Requirements
The founding group of the Safe Motherhood Initiative was looking to mark its 20th anniversary to assess progress of the initiative and form the biggest conference on women's health since their original meeting in 1987.
It was imperative for those involved with the event, that the venue of choice created exactly the right environment for them to successfully focus on bringing international attention to their cause and achieve serious economic progress and international development goals.
- Event Solution
The conference at ExCeL London brought together more than 1,800 individuals, including high level government policy makers, young advocates, technical and scientific experts, health professionals and several other important sector representatives.
Delegates were attracted from over 109 countries to ExCeL London's central location within easy access of London's five international airports. A major consideration was attracting delegates from third world countries with possible budget constraints. ExCeL London worked hand in hand with Visit London (London's convention bureau) and a network of hotels to provide accommodation to suit a wide range of individual budgets. Furthermore, the extensive choice of retail units within ExCeL London's boulevard provided a value-for-money catering solution, where lunch was available for under £5 a head.
The event was mainly formed of exclusive plenary sessions used to address several broad and cross-cutting issues. Parallel sessions ran alongside these on five thematic areas using several South Gallery Rooms and the Platinum Conference Suite. The Event Halls were used to create an interactive exhibition hall and arts exhibition space.

Feedback from Jill Sheffield, President Emeritus, Family Care International was extremely positive.
"Women Deliver was such an amazing success... and no small part of that were the venue and the help you all gave - constantly and with a wonderful smile. It was that can do' attitude that was so great - especially as we came up to the moments before the curtain went up and the inevitable crises appeared.
But it happened, we had about 2,000 participants from 115 countries...and the energy, enthusiasm and commitments made there will help us all deliver for women. Our success in October is in no small part due to the many assists - some large, some small - that you and your team contributed. We are deeply appreciative."
